Trump vs. the Pope | The Weekly Assignment with Susan Demas, Sam Osterhout, & The Argument's Lakshya Jain

And what are the odds that Democrats can take back the Senate in November?

For people who love democracy, today is a great day to join Susan J. Demas and Sam Osterhout on The Weekly Assignment, as they begin by celebrating a huge loss for Donald Trump and his friend, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Seeing an authoritarian leader like Orban — and by extension, Trump, who endorsed him — take an L is certainly a great way to start your week!

But that wasn’t Donald Trump’s only miss this weekend. His delegation of Vice President JD Vance and “advisors” Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff (since when are real estate developers foreign policy advisors?) failed to meet the moment and strike any deal with the Iranians.

And while Trump will continue to claim that we’ve won, gas prices are still high and inflation is creeping up. So when you look at who’s winning, it’s certainly not the United States.

Give to Lincoln Square

Susan and Sam also welcomed Lakshya Jain, who’s in charge of polling data for The Argument on Substack. Jain digs into 2026 polling and he’s found that non-college educated women are breaking from Donald Trump. What does this mean for the midterm elections? Can Dems actually flip the Senate?

To find out the answer to those questions and so much more, check out the latest edition of The Weekly Assignment with Susan J. Demas and Sam Osterhout here on Lincoln Square. And read up on Laskhya Jain’s piece on why Women Are Done With Trump over at The Argument.
