Democrats have been talking about turning the Lone Star State blue for decades, but it’s always been fool’s gold. But with another U.S. Senate seat in play, Democrats are once again hoping that this year could be their year.
The party has nominated James Talarico, who they’re hoping has crossover appeal. Meanwhile, Republicans have a messy runoff between incumbent Senator John Cornyn and state Attorney General Ken Paxton. And Donald Trump — the 800 pound gorilla in the room — promised and endorsement, but never followed through.
This is all taking place after Trump last summer ordered Texas Republicans to find him five more congressional seats in another mid-census redistricting effort.
