If it feels like Democrats are killing it in special elections all across the country since Trump started his second term, you’re not imagining it. They are. And on Tuesday, Democrats flipped two more legislative seats, this time in ruby-red Florida.
But it gets better. Donald Trump now is represented by a Democrat in the Sunshine State’s legislature. Democrat Emily Gregory defeated Trump’s hand-picked candidate, with her campaign focused on affordability breaking through even in the Palm Beach area (because not everyone lives in a gaudy, palatial monstrosity like Mar-a-Lago).
On this edition of First Draft, Susan J. Demas turned to Joe Sudbay, host of State of the States on SiriusXM Progress, for his insights on the Florida elections, as well as previewing upcoming battles like the redistricting measure in Virginia, the jam-packed California gubernatorial primary, and the fight to unseat Maine’s perpetually “concerned” GOP Senator, Susan Collins.
Susan and Joe have been discussing state politics together for years, so don’t miss this show for a deep dive into races up and down the ballot this year. And hear why Joe is optimistic about Democrats not just taking over the House, but the Senate, as well.
