The GOP War on Women’s Right to Vote | Journalist Laura Bassett Joins Susan Demas on First Draft

Trump will try anything to remain in power. But can Republicans push his SAVE Act through the Senate?

With his poll numbers plummeting after a number of policy blunders — from the economy to “no new forever wars” — Donald Trump seems to be reading the tea leaves about how his party will fair in the coming midterms.

In his fight to retain power and avoid any potential accountability, Trump has announced he won’t sign anything into law until the Senate gets the SAVE America Act on his desk. But it looks more and more like the votes for this sweeping hunk of voter suppression measures just aren’t there.

Laura Bassett is a freelance journalist who’s written for Rolling Stone, Jezebel, New York Magazine and more. She authors the Nightcap newsletter here on Substack. Laura joined Susan J. Demas on First Draft and exposed the ways the SAVE America Act would disenfranchise voters across the country — including millions of women.
