Is Iowa a Bellwether for Democrats? | SERIES PREMIERE: On the Ground with Joe Trippi

We start in Iowa, a red state that could still end up flipping the House.

Veteran Democratic strategist Joe Trippi has worked Iowa for decades. He’s criss-crossed the state, talked to voters, organized rallies, fought for coverage — in election years, it’s been a home-away-from-home. And now he’s going back to look at the races from the other side of the camera.

In this new series, Joe will take you to the rooms where campaigns live and breathe. These are the races that our Democracy will hinge on in November. He’s starting in Iowa, which has turned red, but the energy on the Dem side is palpable. And some of the candidates running for higher office could represent the future of the party (if we could be so lucky).

In this premiere episode, Joe speaks with Laura Belin, one of the most essential Iowa-based political reporters on Earth. She’s been called “probably the hardest-working — and perhaps the best — political reporter in the state” and “one of the best investigative reporters in the state.” If you want to know anything about the current state of politics in the Hawkeye State, Laura is your go-to.
