The Heritage Foundation wants you to go to church and have a million babies. And if their latest policy document becomes reality, you won’t have much choice.
In Saving America by Saving the Family, a 168-page blueprint for building a white Christian nationalist nation over the next 250 years, the folks at Heritage lay out something they call “community rest laws.” Sounds wholesome, right? Pro-family. A day off.
Mmhm. Sure.
Andra Watkins and Sam Osterhout break it down in their weekly peek behind the white Christain nationalist curtain. The Heritage Foundation believes Americans have stopped having babies not because having lots of babies is financial unviable. Not because having lots of babies isn’t in everyone’s own best interest. They believe we’ve stopped having lots of babies because …[checks notes] … we’ve stopped going to church. It’s as ridiculous as it sounds. Their solution? Make church attendance functionally mandatory by shutting everything down on Sundays. Not just liquor stores, like in states and counties with blue laws. Everything that doesn’t suit them.
Here’s where it gets dark. The document includes a throwaway sentence about incorporating these mandated rest days into “new communities and new planned areas.” And where are we building new planned communities right now? Gaza.
The Guardian reported that Palestinians in these proposed communities would receive food, education, water, and healthcare — but only if they submit to biometric documentation and surveillance. This is the prototype. This is what “community rest laws” look like when you add enforcement.
We already have ICE agents with facial recognition calling protesters by name. We have Peter Thiel’s Palantir building master databases combining tax records, immigration status, bank accounts, and medical claims. The infrastructure for a social credit system isn’t coming. It’s here.
Andra knows this world from the inside — she grew up in it. The peer pressure. The weekly interrogations about when you’re getting pregnant. The total loss of community if you step out of line.
What can you do? Watch for politicians proposing new blue laws. Get your documents in order before the SAVE Act passes. Find constitutional observer training through Indivisible. And ask yourself every day: What have I done to protect democracy today?
Another thing you can do? Watch the discussion, stay informed on what’s happening. And leave your thoughts in the comments!
