Kyiv’s Quiet Defiance: From Spin Classes to the Front Lines
I was at a morning spin class in Kyiv at a studio that looked a lot like my favorite in Santa Monica. Adjusting my bike, I suddenly noticed that everyone in the class was standing by their bikes, looking down. Music had stopped. There was total silence.
This brings the absurdity of our adventure in Iran into sharp focus. What are we fighting for? Certainly not our lives. We’re not fighting for security or justice or freedom. If anything, the war makes us less safe, is an affront to justice, and restricts the freedom of people around the world (Israelis and Iranians share in their fear, both populations hiding away in their homes or bomb shelters).
