This weekend, millions of people around the country — and around the globe — will take to the streets for the third edition of No Kings protests, standing up to Donald Trump’s authoritarianism as he continues to shred our Constitution and implement his draconian agenda.
Ezra Levin is co-founder of Indivisible, which was founded during Trump’s first term to fight back against him and is one of the groups organizing the demonstrations. He joined Susan J. Demas to talk about why the protests began and highlight the joy that’s been on display at thousands of gatherings last year.
There’s a lot of doom and gloom under Trump II, to be sure, but Ezra discusses how the No Kings protests are a chance for us all to come together, beat back some of the anxiety we’re feeling and organize against it.
“The number one thing they fear is organized, nonviolent, massive public pressure. And we are able to welcome new people into the movement, people who aren’t protesters, people who aren’t organizers or political types maybe they don’t trust Democrats or Republicans but they don’t want a monarchy,” Ezra said. “They don’t want an authoritarian and we’re able to welcome them into the movement on a Saturday where they can feel powerful and they can have fun and connect to their community.”
During the show we also included some of our favorite signs from past rallies. Make sure to tag Lincoln Square on social media this weekend when you’re at your local No Kings rally!
