If there’s one thing Donald Trump does best, it’s lie. And it’s nothing new as the White House late last night released an press release calling for calm and ordering supporters: “Don’t Be A Panican.” Susan J. Demas and Edwin Eisendrath go through this latest attempt to gaslight the people on Lincoln Square and argue that Trump may be the one that’s “Panican” over his abysmal poll numbers and Republicans’ odds in the midterms.
Take the SAVE Act, what voting rights experts warn could impact millions of voters across the country, particularly women who have changed their names after marriage (i.e. the vast majority). And while Senate Republicans are a bit hesitant on how to get this over the finish line, Trump is doing a full court press.
“This is a really draconian act. And this is their way to try and make sure that Republicans don’t experience a bloodbath in 2026. Because if you’re a betting person, and let’s face it, most people in the Trump administration seem to be … you would not bet that Republicans would keep the House. They’re not going to. Even the Senate is in danger and so this is their insurance policy,” Susan said. “It’s very clear. He’s not popular. And that’s why he’s in such a tizzy to try and put his thumb on the scale for the midterm elections because accountability, of course, is a nightmare for any wannabe despot like Donald Trump.”
And while Edwin and Susan applaud people across the country for standing up to the Trump Administration’s oppressive policies, the fight still isn’t over. We need you to call your members of Congress and urge them to stand firm and vote against anymore DHS funding and the SAVE Act. You can get ahold of them through the Capitol Switchboard — 202-224-3121.
