We’re now two weeks into Donald Trump’s attacks on Iran and there’s no sign that we’re leaving the region any time soon. Every day we’re in the region is costing the American people billions of dollars — and American lives. So where are we getting the money to pay for this and what can Congress do?
Congressman Adam Smith, a Democrat who represents Washington state’s 9th District and is the Ranking Member on the House Armed Services Committee, joined Susan J. Demas to offer some insight as to what is happening in Iran. And the Congressman, whose committee oversees the inner-workings of the Pentagon, isn’t mincing words with his criticisms of Trump’s decision to go into Iran or the way Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is leading the charge.
“Secretary Hegseth and President Trump are big on tough talk. Tough talk and saying ‘We got it … we’re tougher than they are.’ And that’s fine, I guess, if you’re a cable news anchor but if you’re actually trying to fight a war, it could be problematic if you don’t see the world as it actually is,” Smith said.
And what of Trump’s other wartime advisors? Jump into this very important discussion with Susan J. Demas and Congressman Adam Smith, Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, now on Lincoln Square.
