Steven Beschloss Breaks Down Trump's Budget in All its Ghastly Detail

The now-passed budget bill will bankrupt us both financially and morally.

and spoke just before the House passed the catastrophic budget bill. It was a simpler time back then (two hours ago, as I write this post). Nothing has changed since then except the stakes. The United States has put itself on a collision course with history, and the Republicans who pushed this along will likely find themselves in a precarious situation in November 2026.

Steven and Sam addressed many of the elements of the bill that you MUST PAY ATTENTION TO. These are very real things that will have very real consequences on our everyday lives. We already know the statistics: the millions who will be left uninsured; the hospitals that will close down; the $175-ish billion dedicated to building an ICE army and concentration camps across the country.

Yes. We all know this (although Steven goes into more detail in this conversation), but it’s done. It’s passed. The most important part of this conversation was about what comes next.

Believe it or not, as hopeless as we all are beginning to feel, this is potentially an age of possibility. It’s easy to focus on what we don’t want. We know we don’t want this bill or anything in it. We know we don’t want an American Gestapo.

It’s time to turn our attention to the world that we want to live in, and work like hell to build it. Trump and MAGA are making that vision more and more difficult to achieve. But not impossible. Our collective action must include dreaming of what comes next.

The Fourth of July is a good place to start. Use this conversation as a starting point for your weekend and the weeks and months that follow. We can do this. But we have to stick together.

Questions for you: What is the mainstream media not covering that it needs to? Who should Lincoln Square talk to next?
