Israel threatened to kill Iran’s supreme leader Thursday as the conflict between the two powers continues to escalate. More than 240 people are wounded following Iranian missile attacks on a hospital in southern Israel and residential buildings in Tel Aviv.
Meanwhile Trump has said that the U.S. could launch military strikes on Iran. So what happens when a reality show president wades into an enormous international conflict?
“In a situation that's popping off right now, international expertise is of paramount importance,” says Bobby Jones, a retired U.S. Navy commander who hosts Anchor Watch on Lincoln Square.
But Trump’s top advisors, like Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, lack the expertise to deal with a crisis of this scale.
“We are flying blind and he likes it that way. He likes the chaos. He believes, to be honest, that this is the ultimate reality TV show. And that's cute when lives aren't involved,” Bobby notes. “[But] tons of lives are involved right now, OK?”
Bobby talked and Stuart Stevens discussed the grave risks of American intervention and what the aftermath would look like if Israel accomplishes its goal of “regime change” by ousting Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Stuart pointed out the lack of leadership from Trump at this time.
“One of the things that really strikes me here is there has been no attempt to prepare America for or to discuss with America why, if we do this, it is important,” Stuart says.
Donald Trump’s Imperial Presidency Is Imperiled
I’ve always believed that the theory that Donald Trump is, at his core, a sulky toddler, downplays the extreme danger he poses — not just to America, but the entire world order.
