Trump’s Venezuela War: Military Analyst Bobby Jones on the Strategy and Risks

Despite claims of being a peacemaker, the President has pivoted to warmongering just days into 2026.

Trump couldn’t wait more than 48 hours into the new year before starting a war. This is the President who has bragged/lied about “stopping at least seven wars …” He is the America First President.

Of course, nothing Trump says is based in truth.q

So what does a war in Venezuela mean? What happens next? Do we believe this regime has a long-term game plan beyond extracting Venezuela’s fossil fuel reserves and natural resources? Do we believe that Trump – an autocrat – is so dedicated to the spread of liberal democracy that he will do the hard work to ensure the freedom and prosperity of the Venezuelan people?

I don’t know about you, but we remain skeptical.

We are lucky to have retired Navy Commander Bobby Jones on the team at Lincoln Square. His military expertise and insight are singular. He went live right after Trump’s tired presser on our new war, gave his two cents (Bobby never holds back), and took audience questions.
