Just before we went live, Sandwich Guy was acquitted. It was a bright spot in an otherwise really, really rough week — at least so much as policing is concerned.
Because — of course! — there were real reasons to celebrate this week. We elected Dems up and down the ticket across the country. Mamdani in NYC said that anyone who commits crimes should be held accountable. He was specifically referring to ICE and federal agents who are shoving their way through our democracy.
Yes. That is a great sign. But our pushback comes after months of and months of being violated and terrorized by the people who are meant to be protecting us.
Case in point, the daycare situation.
said that he would never have been able to raid a daycare center, violently pulling a woman out in front of a bunch of children, all because of a civil violation.I imagine most of us feel that way. Our humanity can stretch if push comes to shove, but most of us will never bend to such atrocities.
So now we’re left wondering if our collective power is enough to counter the inhumanity of individual thugs armed to the teeth and full of rage.
It’d better be.
