Trump’s budget bill could pass the Senate next week … and this new version is even worse than you think.
There are deep cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, which will kick millions off their health care. But that’s not all. Edwin Eisendrath says the bill enshrines Project 2025 into law and describes it as “a tyrant’s dream come true” by essentially allowing Trump to ignore court orders.
“They want legally to strip everyone of their rights and only have the king have power. And that's not an exaggeration. That's not nonsense. Read the bill,” says Edwin, a former Chicago Sun-Times CEO who now hosts a radio show on WCPT-AM 820.
Trump's Budget Bill Puts Project 2025 into Law. It's a Tyrant's Dream Come True.
Social media is not real life. Nothing made that point more clearly last week than the Musk-Trump breakup. Even the New York Times thought it was worth putting their nasty Twitter posts in print — as if their meanness,…
The time to stop this bill and save our democracy is now, Edwin says. Call your senators — Democrats and Republicans alike — and tell them to kill the legislation.
Meanwhile, the corporate media keeps letting Trump off the hook and flattering him with coverage of his “massive” military parade last weekend — even though the turnout was dwarfed by millions turning out for “No Kings” protests across the country.
And Edwin also talked to Lincoln Square Executive Editor Susan J. Demas about growing political violence on the right, starting at the top with Trump dispatching the military along with masked ICE agents into Democratic cities. There were assassinations and assassination attempts of lawmakers in Minnesota on Saturday. And there were two separate instances of men driving cars into No Kings protests on Saturday, one in Virginia and one in California.
“Bleeding Kansas was a precursor to the Civil War, right?” Edwin notes. “These people will have a civil war rather than have a democracy.”
