How to Fight Back Against Trump's Health Care Cuts & RFK Jr. Is Still a Huge Problem

Susan Demas & Laura Packard

Laura Packard was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in 2017 and she’s been outspoken about her illness and recovery. Since then, she’s been fighting to make sure everyone has good health coverage by founding the group Health Care Voices and directing Health Care Voter.

She’s a veteran of the successful fight to preserve the Affordable Care Act during Trump’s first term. Now as we’re facing the biggest health care cuts ever in Trump’s budget bill, Laura has been traveling across the country to build support against it.

Not only does the MAGA Murder Budget slash Medicaid and Medicare, but it also cuts subsidies for Obamacare. Laura breaks down how millions of people will lose health care coverage altogether, while millions more will be paying more for worse care, as hospitals begin to close. And why are Trump and MAGA Republicans doing this? It’s to pay for more tax cuts for billionaires like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.

So what can we do? Now that the bill is in the Senate, Laura says we all need to call our senators every day. She’s been busy talking with lawmakers like Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin and Congresswoman Kristin McDonald Rivet about these devastating cuts.

Laura also talked with Lincoln Square Executive Editor Susan J. Demas about RFK Jr.’s war on vaccines and scientific research. He recently dismissed the entire CDC vaccine advisory panel, replacing them with anti-vax allies.

“What we can do is publicize the ways in which RFK Jr. is really wrong, hold accountable … and make sure the people that elected the people that put RFK Jr into power know that,” Laura says.
