Christian Nationalism at TPUSA: Faith, Trump, & the Border | The Tim & April Show

At the latest Turning Point USA conference, divisions within MAGA busted into the open.

Tim Whitaker is the founder of The New Evangelicals, and April Ajoy is the author ofStar Spangled Jesus: Leaving Christian Nationalism And Finding True Faith.

One word for the speeches at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest? Disjointed. As conservative culture grows more openly vocal in its hatred for minority groups, the movement’s stars seem to have different visions of who should be included.

You only need to listen to crowd reactions to Ben Shapiro’s and Vivek Ramaswamy’s speeches to see the widening divide. But let’s face it: how can a movement built on certain groups being valued more than others promote inclusion? As Tim rightfully points out, “Vivek’s like, ‘We shouldn’t be judging people based on the color of their skin.’ Like, dude, have you looked at the administration you voted in and what they’re currently doing?”

And so, the conservative movement continues chasing its own tail.

There’s no denying the impact of faith on conservative politics and TPUSA is a showcase for the Christian nationalist ideals that MAGA has put into action. Yet, what exactly is Christian about wanting your neighbor deported?
