Major Media's Fail on Trump's 'Shylock' Comment | Jennifer Schulze & Susan J. Demas LIVE

And how "Look at Me Journalism" is warping the industry.

Trump signed the budget bill on July 4 and many mainstream news outlets trumpeted it as a huge achievement, instead of concentrating on what’s actually in the legislation: massive healthcare cuts that will kick millions of their insurance, almost $200 billion for ICE, making Trump’s executive orders the law of the land, and more.

He took a victory lap in Iowa over the weekend and there was something else that outlets like the New York Times didn’t report on. He referred to bankers as “Shylocks” — a well-known antisemitic term.

"Think of that: No death tax," Trump said. "No estate tax. No going to the banks and borrowing from, in some cases, a fine banker — and in some cases, Shylocks and bad people."

Jennifer Schulze, a longtime Chicago broadcast journalist and media critic, tells Lincoln Square Executive Editor Susan J. Demas that she sees the omission as part of a longstanding pattern of Trump coverage.

“I can't imagine what it would be like to cover a Trump speech. But I do have a strong feeling that through the years, reporters that are doing it have mostly failed to convey what probably is the most important thing — that there's an enormous amount of crazy … there's all these patterns. And trying to pull that sentence from a 40-minute ramble and make that into a headline, as if this was a normal policy announcement is the norm still. And that is not what is happening there,” Jennifer says.

Jennifer and Susan also discuss the NYT’s slanted coverage of Zohran Mamdani, who won the city’s Democratic mayoral primary, why most journalists are still using X, the media embracing the inhumane term “Alligator Alcatraz” as part of its questionable coverage the ICE concentration camps, “Look at Me” journalism, and more.
