Watch Lincoln Square's Executive Editor on C-SPAN

Susan J. Demas talked about Trump's budget bill, the media, recession fears, and the most important issue facing America today.

C-SPAN asked Lincoln Square Executive Editor Susan J. Demas to be on during July Fourth weekend. And the first question host Kimberly Adams asked was: “What do you think is the most important issue facing America today in 2025?”

“I think the most important issue is what this country is going to look like in terms of our government,” Susan said. “Are we going to continue on with a democracy or are we going to have more of a model of autocratic rule like we see in Hungary?”

The host also asked her about Paramount’s $16 million settlement with Donald Trump last week over the editing of a “60 Minutes” interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris on CBS. Susan had interviewed media critic Mark Jacobs about the deal, which paves the way for an important merger Paramount is seeking, right after it broke last week.

“So I've been a journalist for almost 25 years and I've worked in mainstream media, nonprofit media, and now independent media,” Susan said. “And I never really expected to see settlements like with Paramount and ABC [and Trump], where the case is, according to lawyers — and I want to clarify that I am not a lawyer — but the legal issues seemed pretty cut and dry.”

First it was the $400 million Qatari jet. Now it’s $16 million from Paramount. Donald Trump’s future presidential library sure is raking it in these days.
