Trump Wants a War at Home. The People Just Said ‘No.’ | The Weekly Assignment

The nationwide NO KINGS PROTESTS 2.0 was (more so than the first NO KINGS PROTESTS) a huge success with more than 7 million people participating across more than 2,700 demonstrations! From New York City, to California, and everywhere in between — even a town in Michigan informally known as “The Home of the KKK” (Howell, Michigan).

What did we learn? If you look at the No Kings demonstrations at their core: Americans are sick and tired of Trump’s authoritarian moves. As much as he thinks that there are “some people” who want a dictator, he is wrong and Trump himself is simply antithetical to the ideas of what this experiment we call the United States of America was built on; as

puts it in her article: “No thrones. No crowns. No Kings. Ever.”

That was the message we sent to Trump, his family, the broligarchs, the GOP, all of them: We will not bow down to a king, we will fight for the ideals of the U.S. before we allow ourselves to fall into the system the Founding Fathers fought against.

We also learned that we aren’t alone; if you feel like right wing fascism is the popular idea in this country, whether it is because you see it online or see it being done in our government, going to a protest will make you feel motivated again. Marching with your fellow Americans, seeing people you wouldn’t expect, organizing, “touching grass” will change your mindset and make you realize there is hope for a fight against all of these terrible and terrifying things that Trump’s regime is doing on a daily basis.

Do not let them make you feel like there is no hope, like there is no point in protesting, like there is no point in fighting; there is, I can assure you of that, you just have to take the first steps: Organize, read, donate, disrupt; cause good trouble.

Most importantly, remember, fighting fascism doesn’t mean only doing so when it’s most convenient to do so. Participating in a demonstration with 20 members of your community can be just as powerful as a nationwide protest of over 7 million. Fascists take no breaks in their relentless attacks against us, so we have to be twice as active, and twice as relentless in our attacks against fascism. Don’t know where to begin?
