Not a word about how the Roberts gang on the court is expanding presidential, read the Trump's, power to destroy all the institutions meant to protect us and turning them into our persecutors. Trump is not the leader of this coup to over throw democracy with corporate feudalism. It's the shadow billionaires of the Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation.
This coup was smart enough to go after the courts and the media first. The voting public is too ignorant and/or brainwashed to save themselves. There are far too many who don't get it. The election is far too close. Jefferson warned us that freedom and ignorance are not compatible, and we may be proving it soon. It's not just politics. Evolution theory says that a specie that has not predators will eventually out breed the food supply. We found a new twist by destroying the food supply by destroying the climate. I'm so glad I don't have the guilt of leaving and kids to inherit this mess.

It’s no secret that the electorate is fed up with the Democratic party. Biden won the 2020 election and after J6, his AG Garland failed to prosecute Cheeto and Republicans immediately. Then the administration passed a series of social pieces of legislation with Biden trying to show the electorate that government can work for WE the People. But no legislation to curb Republicans attack on the foundation of our democracy, the right to vote.
Now the Nazi Republicans knowing they’re in desperate need for votes are hard at work shrinking the electorate with vigilante challenges(bit.ly/41UelTx); Cheeto pushing the SAVE Act which would give the Nazis the ability to disenfranchise legitimate registered voters; the Republican state withdrawal from ERIC(Electronic Voter Information Center: bit.ly/4vCpm8Y); illegitimate gerrymandering supported by SCOTUS; gutting the VRA by SCOTUS.
So the Democrats failed to protect the system on which our democracy depends and the Nazis are determined to destroy it so they can stay in power forever; or at least maintain such slim Congressional margins that Congress remains nonfunctional and the power of the Executive reigns supreme. A monarchy. It’s now up to WE the People and demand a Voter Reform bill after the 2028 election. This may require eliminating the filibuster. If so, so be it because WE may not get another shot at this.

While I agree that Edwin's list of wretched activities taking place under Donald Trump's presidency is accurate, I'm still not seeing the reality that "America is not going along." Trump's latest approval rating is 37%, which is terrible as far presidential support goes. But what I don't understand is why that approval rating isn't at, well, 0%. What is it about this authoritarian creep that still appeals to people? How big of a bitter chip does a person have to carry on his shoulder that one could support such a vile human being, that even as he is making your life worse in practically every way, as long as he is cruel and punishes the people you hate, you will cheer him on? If 37% of the electorate still views this guy as their true leader, that's a real problem.
MAGA only listens to him. No analyses. That's on us to reach them. We only reach each other. Despite the shamefulness of the Democratic legislators being as bought as the Republicans, at least we aren't venal and need to get smarter about how to reach people who have fingers in their ears. I say it's not with those predominantly ominous ads you run that are tone-deaf about what would get listened to.

2 or 3 times a week I check the polling aggregator Real Clear Politics. The aggregate approval for Trump has been rock solid at 40.4% with almost no movement.

I support and love your group but I fear we are gone. They will send all their pardoned criminals out along with many in the armed services take the ballot boxes and end democracy. I don’t see us stopping them.
You are getting to the core of the problem, Deborah; the thing that I fear so many Americans still cannot conceive in their minds. I have been saying some form of this since last summer: Trump and his lickspittles are going to go as far as they possibly can to prevent a free and fair election. I'm not to the point of saying "we are gone," but I am also not certain our democracy will hold this time. American democracy still has things in its favor--our population size, for one, and the simple fact that we have been living in a democracy for 250 years--but this is still a dangerous time. I'm not sure who it is exactly that will stop Trump's goon squads in November.
I have been fighting for 11 years given up vacation time and $$. I knock doors and phone bank. I will still fight but we have to see what is coming. To me the only thing stopping them are the rich, so far they bend over.
One of my favorite songs of all time is Pete Morton's "Another Train." It's addressed to someone who's demoralized, depressed, down in the dumps. (Haven't we all been there at some point?) A couple of lines from it: "You're building worlds that don't exist / Imagination plays the worst tricks." A common trick is to imagine that the anonymous "they" have far more power than they do and that "we" have far less. What's the antidote? The song's chorus goes "There's another train / there always is / Get up and climb aboard another train." We *are* stopping them, in ways large and small. There's plenty more to be done. Get up and climb aboard!
Yes! And everyone who's feeling demoralized should read Timothy Snyder's mini-book, On Tyranny. It's a guidebook for resisting tyranny. The message is "despair is not an option." Another hopeful thing is that it's been on the best seller lists for years, and sold out in first edition. They've now reprinted and it's available. When I lined up to buy for a friend, two people behind me in line -- and the cashier -- were so gripped by my description that all of them got copies too.
