Skye Perryman, President and CEO of Democracy Forward, is an instrumental figure on the legal battlefield. She’s been fighting Trump on a number of fronts, including for the rights of our civil servants. She stopped by It’s The Democracy, Stupid to talk with Edwin Eisendrath about several of those cases and to celebrate some significant wins.
So how does the team at Democracy Forward get those victories? You have to have a little bite with that bark, she explains.
“Let me just say to any powerful institution or people that work at powerful institutions that are tuning in, it is not too late. Sitting on the sidelines, you do end up on the wrong side of history. But it’s not too late to get off the sidelines and get on the right side of history.”
And while they civil servants are being targeted daily by the Trump administration, Perryman applauds them for taking a stand.
“Every time somebody stands up and stands up and says, ‘I’m not going to pre-comply,’ every time a civil servant follows their oath and refuses to do this government’s bidding, even if that means they get fired. … Every time we as individuals do that, we are stopping and helping slow the attempts to consolidate power. And that’s really the game this year, I think.”
