SCOTUS Allows Trump to Dismantle the Department of Education | LIVE with Edwin Eisendrath

The children may be our future, but Trump's making sure they'll get a far worse education now.

Trump has only been able to do so much damage to our country so quickly because the other two branches of government have given him a giant assist.

Earlier this month, Congress passed Trump’s budget bill that shreds the health care system, makes ICE massive national police force, and gives more tax cuts to billionaires with no questions asked (or at least not from Republicans who run both chambers).

But Trump has been running into roadblocks from the lower courts with his deportation agenda and efforts to gut key federal government functions. So his allies on the Supreme Court keep stepping in to make sure that the president can keep doing whatever he wants. And no, this wasn’t their position when Joe Biden was president (anyone remember the Court shooting down student debt relief?)

Just this week, SCOTUS issued yet another unsigned opinion on a case involving Trump’s attempt to break the Department of Education. Without hearing a single oral argument, the far-right majority gave Trump the green light to pink-slip 1,400 employees.

Chicago radio host Edwin Eisendrath tells Susan J. Demas today what this will mean for kids.

“It means funding for low-income students in America is going to dry up. That's Title I. And the people who administer it, gone. It means support for girls in sports, Title IX, gone,” Edwin notes. “… Support for kids with learning differences, gone. Student loans for college, it'll take forever to process them. They're basically gone. Civil rights, they enforce it. Those laws about schools all over the country, gone.”
