Stuart, while it's true that, as you say, the GOP has become a party of weaklings that bow before the White Hoard, I still believe that the greatest issue that Republican politicians face can be summed up in the old adage that you can choose when you ride the tiger, but the tiger decides when you can get off - if ever. The GOP chose the Southern Strategy which brought in all the angry crazies. Now, if the GOP tries to shake the lunatics off, they can't without death threats.

Prior parameters of success will not matter in 2026 - there will be no unrigged elections. Low presidential approval ratings will not matter. The smashing of society is the goal so autocracy can reign supreme......

What a fantastic conversation. We can't complain about Trump's constant lies and ignore the one big lie that many of us hide ourselves from : racism needs to be brought into the light of day.

Thank you for the great reporting. You have said something which illustrates the truth of how this "creature" became president - a reflection of our damaged American society.

You can see a decaying, ugly, vicious and vindictive person.

Excellent show! Stuart, you are a true patriot for speaking out and fighting back against this new fake GOP. I appreciate you so much!

At last, Stuart makes the point at the outset that the reason we lost 2024 is because Democrats are lazy and didn't show up at the polls.

I disagree with that assessment. True-blue Dems still refuse to understand that the national party offered an extension of a status quo (1) the benefits of which hadn't been clearly described over the preceding 3+ years, and 2) which wasn't working for a huge number of people. Telling people "inflation is worse in other countries" is not motivating for people struggling with economic perils.

I would say: "the Party leadership was clueless!"

I want to agree with that, but the lack of leadership does not excuse sloth, for that would require a concession that Democrats need to be appropriately motivated to not be lazy or deliberately choose to return a rapist, traitor and malignant narcissistic sociopath to the White House they threw him out of four years earlier.

I just finished reading Stuart's piece in Zeteo. If you haven't read it, stop what you're doing and go read it. Right Now. I totally support every one of the actions Stuart lists: Defund ICE and put the money into block grants for more police officers and training; Pass the Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act (first introduced in 2021); Make stock trading by congress members illegal; Require winners (Pres, VP, etc) to release ten years of tax returns; same for cabinet nominees; erect a statue in the Capitol honoring the brave police defenders from January 6; Move Ghislaine Maxwell back to a proper prison; Investigate possible illegal activity by DOGE; Investigate Presidential (I'm talking about you, Donnie) corruption. Wow! these ideas are awesome and the Dems could initiate all of them - ALL OF THEM - in the first week!! Touchdown Stuart Stevens!!!

Could many current problems with the Dem Party, their seeming paralysis, etc., be largely due to still being stunned that Trump, any candidate like Trump, got elected, not once, but twice! They are still knocked off their "feet", their "stance". What? Being moral, honest, ethical, working for peace, fairness - for all - that doesn't win? But corrupt selfish violence does? So, they're still "stunned". I am, too. But, Bernie, AOC, Warren, Beato, Kalra, ...; they are not stunned. ONWARD!

I hear you, but I have long been of the opinion that it's a fatal combination of the 'easy' corporate money (which comes with a high moral price) and being the kind of people who do tend to care about others-- and unfortunately they spend half their time schmoozing with donors and almost no time with their supposed constituents.

The End Of The Line For Fiat Currencies (from Macleod Substack)

The shape of the next financial crisis is now becoming apparent. Rising bond yields, driven by increasing risk in the light of G7 government debt crises in the four major currencies will have the following consequences:

· A collapse in equities, the suddenness of which will be exacerbated by sudden awareness of the knock-on consequences

The BRICS coalition is establishing an alternative to using the dollar as a reserve currency in international trade involving 50 countries This deals a significant blow to the hegemony of the dollar in use of international trade

· Liquidation of malinvestments in the private sector, leading to insolvencies, unemployment, and potential banking distress

· Panicked collateral liquidation of equity stocks by banks as loans become uncovered

· Economic slumps in all the G7, leading to lower tax revenues and higher welfare costs leading to soaring budget deficits, which in turn tightens the bond trap screws

· A doom loop of rising bond yields, interest rates, deficits, collapsing financial collateral values, deepening economic slumps, corporate failures, and banking crises Rinse and repeat, again and again

· Financial and systemic contagion between G7 nations will ensure that none of them escape the collapse, and individual national remedies will be overwhelmed

In a nutshell, the entire system of credit embodied in fiat currencies faces the prospect of a rapid collapse

Wow. As a person who has always hated 'economics' and shied away from it I don't understand much of what you lay out here. BUT! I do know enough to understand the big picture. And I am very much afraid it is true. When is the only question. And...we do not have a single upper-echelon administration person who can be trusted or relied on to do the best by the country. Only for their small club of vultures.
