It is ironic that Trump is compared to the despotic Louis XIV, a king who was the epitome of authoritarianism but also known for body odor and a multitude of other odiferous ailments. But the comparison with Hitler and the Trump regime is concerning. Like Hitler, Trump controls all branches of the government and wants the military to take loyalty oaths to him. Miller is his Himmler. However, Trump dismisses the comparison of the demographics of 1920s Germany and the current US. They are completely different. We are not a defeated people, we celebrate being families of immigrants, and we are not victims of hyper inflation, yet. We are a fiercely independent people in a country with a democracy. There are many differences and as Trump’s henchmen, Vought, Miller, Noem, Bondi and the rest institute more draconian programs, the sleeping giant will eventually awaken. We are a big country, third in the world by population. It takes time for his overreach to be felt and his people to realize his betrayal. A reckoning is coming, just not soon enough
Thank you for this piece. It is past time to pussyfoot around saying the Big Truth — Trump is the 21st Century Hitler. And you have brought all the receipts and laid them out so clearly that anyone can understand and no one can look away and claim ignorance.
Thank you for this fabulous article. Laying out the dots and perceiving how the connections develop over time is a significant type of skill, especially needed right now. I would like to suggest you consider the role of The Doctrine of Discovery and its generations long impact on Indigenous Peoples in the Americas and beyond. Fear of women has always been present in societies everywhere. I read this somewhere, but the idea that the female would bleed monthly and not die seemed to make fear central. Of course that fear sank into the dark recesses of ancient memory but emerged when the church put their own spin on a hierarchy of value...white European male at the top and everyone else far below
Brilliant article. Thanks for your in-depth research. I thought I had a fairly good understanding of this past history, but you tied together many facts and ideas that were quite eye-opening.
I love this piece! I thought about the book you mentioned that you’re writing and this book title flashed into my mind:
“When God a Was a Woman”
I looked it up in perplexity.ai and this was the result :
The book titled “When God Was a Woman” was written by Merlin Stone. It was first published in 1976 and explores the ancient worship of the Great Goddess and the transition from matriarchal to patriarchal societies. The book had a significant impact on feminist theology and the Goddess movement of the 1970s and 1980s”
It may seem random, but I feel a great deal of what is going on today has to do with a fear of and a resentment of women.
Yes, my argument in the book is that man > woman is the template for all other oppressions and that finding how that belief arose is the key to escaping the Imagined Order that was constructed on it--and to defeating authoritarianism today.
