Why is there a need for an Epstein Transparency Act and not an AGI Transparency Act? The shift in power between government and the tech sector, caused by the implementation of highly invasive AI technology is fast becoming a threat to the world and therefore needs to be addressed, the same way as nuclear energy and -weapons. The EU is doing just that. Meanwhile the Trump admin is non-stop putting billions of taxpayer dollars in the insatiable bank accounts of Big Tech billionaires. Why? Aren't they already rich enough? One of them being the already illustrious Palantir with its co-founder Peter Thiel as mentor of J.D. Vance. Thiel bought him his seat as Vice President of the USA (the closest seat next to the President).
A company like Palantir seeks influence and control not only at the level of surveillance and defence/warfare, but also beyond. As we saw yesterday with healthworkers protesting outside the hospital where they work, against the way Palantir is making their work harder, not easier. It's assignment is not to optimize the product i.e. taking good care of patients as well as the workers doing the heavy lifting, but to maximise profit; at the expense of both healthcare workers and patients.
The neoliberal approach of the past three decades has proven its valuea, now it's time for a new course of action: neolibertarianism, where deregulation and technological innovation is being taken to its most extreme consequence: a technocratically (de-humanized) led government aimed at the way America does its business both at home and abroad.
The proposed AGI Transparency Act must initiate a national debate involving the reinterpretation of language, terminology and concepts in the context of an AI-dominated society, businessworld and political arena. After that a national referendum will determine the need and desire of an AI dominated society. The same goes for Europe/the EU.
Peter Thiel talks about freedom and democracy as no longer being interdependent values or goals. The shared interpretation within all liberal democracies is that one cannot exist without the other. However, this is not how Thiel and the other AI technocrats see it. They interpret freedom as the right of entrepreneurs like themselves to work and expand their influence without any 'unnecessary' oversight or bureaucratic interference from the government.
Those who build and own this technology have a very clear opinion: Due to the complexity of current and future technology, it would be unwise if not catastrophic to allow poorly informed, non-technical people to participate in decision-making processes related to the necessity of technology in a rapidly changing world. I suppose they mean those who have pledged their blind loyalty to Trump and the MAGA agenda. But, it also includes the large group who consider themselves informed and indepent critical thinkers.
And yet, most of them will think that implementing AI is common practice, like with the wave of automation to which they adapted fairly easy. They're used to having tech innovation imposed upon them; most times it's interesting and usefull. Fun stuff. Well, not so much with AGI dominating the world we all have to live in. Yes, it has all the fun stuff automation brought. But with generative AI we're entering a world of uncertain and even unwanted consequences. Consequences that are out of our control. Consequences that will not just the Western world, but also China and the beyond.

I still don't get it. You load up with all the gritty, scary pictures, then you tell us how smart and further ahead the nefarious Right is. Then you wrap it up with some weak sauce about 'community' and 'discussions' and 'explanations'. What is it they say? "When you're explaining, you're losing".
You completely miss the root of all of this. Sure, the billionaires can buy up all the tech and communications infrastructure, but who are they persuading? People who are already predisposed to hate people who are not them, to resent anyone who they can be convinced did them dirty or who has been given an advantage over them. People with the critical thinking skills of flatworms. People who fantasize about murdering their neighbors and 'being on top'.
Do you really think that those people can be 'neutralized' so that they slink back to their trailer parks and give up on their dreams of glory? With words? No, you don't. You're just talking shit.
It may very well be that the world we've already entered is fundamentally incompatible with democracy. I don't know, and neither do you. And with that big a gap in your reasoning, I see no reason to believe you will ever work out a path back to it. Whatever is going to happen, is happening. It really depends on what people want, and what they're willing to do to get it.

Well, I don't understand AI at all except that it is artificial. Liked the suggestions but would not be sure if something was AI projected or not.
