From profiting off corporate tech deals in Beijing to dumping chemicals in the National Mall's reflecting pool, Trump's corruption has reached new lows. What can we do about it?
Thank you for that description of our Criminal in Chief. Just for a moment imagine he was just as corrupt as he is, but he wasn’t politically stupid. By that imagine that he had not invoked the tariffs and had not entered this insanely stupid war, but instead he built off of the solid economic fundamentals he inherited to bring down costs, boosted construction jobs to build more houses, and cut taxes more broadly so that we all had more money in our pockets. All this, but at the same time all of the retribution, all of the grift and corruption, all of the idiots in his cabinet, all of the DOGE-inflicted destruction, and all of the efforts to undermine our democracy, I suspect his approval rating would be in the high 40’s-low 50’s. My point is, do roughly 50% of Americans truly value integrity and democracy enough to not overlook their destruction as long as it improves their finances? I don’t pretend to know the answer but I worry that this might be true.
I think if the economy was humming along just great, no war, employment numbers way up, then yes, Trump's approval would be over 50%. He would still be despised by a majority of the people who actually vote, but his plurality of supporters, and the non-voters, would push him over 50%.
A small point of clarification--the economy is not bad everywhere. I live in a predominantly white community, mostly rural. We might not be billionaires, but most have comfy savings and can afford $460/gl gas, to go out to dinner where a meal averages $25 not including tip. It is still maddening for us Dems to encounter those who go blithely about their business, evidently not knowing what destruction is taking place. Because they likely won't be affected by it. Just line I won't. Except spiritually. This regine is focused on keeping THEIR POWER at any cost. Caring about OTHERS is not in their vocabulary.

It's what we've come to expect. But members of the MAGA cult are either ignorant of Trump's actions, or even worse, don't care what he does as long as they keep getting to own the libs. Whatever the hell that even means anymore. Does it bother them that this insane DOJ "deal" not only lets him hand out free cash to the thugs, goons, and mouth-breathers of January 6 like it's Monopoly money? Or do they care that lickspittle Todd Blanche apparently just gave Trump, Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka, Jared, Dracula's daughter, and the rest of this family of vipers a free pass from ever having to pay taxes again? How big of a chip on your shoulder do you have to have against the "elites," or how fucking stupid do you have to be, to continue giving your support to these creeps? I suggest they should care, because poisoning the environment with chemicals and removal of environmental protection laws hits everyone. As to John Roberts looking in a mirror.
