If Democrats want to understand how Trump ended up back in the White House, they need to come to grips with these seminal failures over the last 30 years — and clean up their own house.
Absolutely correct. 100%. I have posted till I am blue in the face that Democrats need to "take the gloves off" The writing is on the wall. Dems are passive. Dems DO NOT want to see ripples on the surface of water. They would rather sit back and hope it all turns out well. I AM DISGUSTED by these pansy moves. Rs have had the FLAME THROWER on HIGH and Dems act like there is no way around the burning. Rs say going nuclear is there option. What are Dems doing? I hear "watch this space"... ENOUGH! I think the world of Biden, but his loyalty to Isreal with money and weapons made me SICK. Merrick Garland was a HORRIBLE AG! Letting Rs trample over every institution was madness! Dems need to pull there heads out of there ass and GET TOUGH! I want to SEE it. I want to FEEL it! I want to hear the roar of warriors fighting like they mean it.....for the people.
And this is why the Democratic base is so pissed off at the leadership of the party. THe base knows that unless forced, the next Dem president will do everything in his (yes his) power to look forward not backward and let all of the crimes of the Trump Era fade. They will appoint an Eric Holder or a Merrick Garland as AG and the cycle will repeat. Holder was never going to do shit about the banksters, he came from a big NYC firm that defended them in every case brought by the SEC or investors. Garland was just Garland, worried about image and process not about bringing Trump and his cronies to justice. This cannot be allowed to happen again. The moment Trump is no longer president he needs to be arrested and jailed. Let his lawyers fight out which of his crimes are covered as official acts ... while he sits in jail. Arrest his cronies as well. All of them - Rubio, Musk, Hegseth, Kennedy, Miller, Mullin, Homan, Noem, Gabbard, Pulte, Blanche, Bondi...just to get started. And make all of those arrests inevitable by convening hearings starting in January 2027 that expose all of the crimes, all of the corruption, etc. in simple fucking terms that even the least engaged American can comprehend.
"Obama trimmed the package to attract Republican votes he did not need, since he enjoyed Democratic majorities in both chambers of Congress."
Opportunity lost, but so many times. This is a devastating, excellent summation of the last years of Democrats trying to make the world conform to their vision. Meanwhile the USA has moved on to a rough and tumble political world where racism, ignorance and alternate facts attract voters. The AOC faction has it right and shouldn't have to fight for recognition among its own people. Alas.
At 83 and going from Independent to Democrat and likely to switch back to Independent, the main reason is that I'm fed up with a.bunch of hand wringing, pearlclutching, wishy washy, out of touch old times Democratcs with less interest in what the people want than the Republicans do.
We.need more progressives.like AOC who see the value, dedication, and.necessary resolve of men and women like Mamdami instead of stuck in the past people like Schumer and so many others; we need candidates who will fight and connect not stick their heads in the sand, write "strongly worded" letters or cater to the very party that is destroying this country. We also need Democrat leaders who stop the sabotaging of candidates who WILL fight for all Americans, learn how to successfully communicate, and LISTEN to all the people not just the elites.
The analysis is spot on but things can only be won if there is a fair mid term or even a mid term at all. The Democrats have been the nice ladies in the lunchroom telling Billy not to punch the little girl next to him. They have not been willing to act like lawmakers and consequently don’t deserve to be given that role. But what do we have as an alternative and how do we get them to start behaving in accountable ways? The bail outs, not holding anyone accountable, and the extreme left views are not helping them. I also think that the name calling and rage I see in messages and posts continue to reflect a population that is not buckling down for a logical and strategic fight. The dems and their supporters have to stop finger pointing and proposing the continued destruction of institutions and start telling us what they will do, what they actually offer, and have a developed immediate strategy. God save America.
If by extreme left views like universal healthcare.like Medicare for all, fixing the tax inequity, breaking up monopolies, giving workers and unions reasons to vote for them, living wages, a truly bipartisan judicial system and ethics rules for all departments of government, I guess I'm proud to be one of them.
No I used to live in Canada and those are all good things. It is wholesale defunding of police or saying that certain countries should not exist without a deliberate and researched approach that leads to identifying a problem, fixing it and holding those accountable if that is appropriate.
There’s reason why Democrats “lost” white working class voters, from the Civil Rights Act of 1964 through Obama’s election. Hint: It has little to do with telecommunications legislation.
Yes, and has Democratic leadership learned its lesson? By all indications, today, I would say no. We need a party that will fight in the trenches, instead of taking the "high road". When the opposition is busy throwing out the rulebook, then a different approach is required. The young Democratic Socialists of the party's left wing offer a new road that actually "speaks" to the voters who used to be the Democrats' solid base. Ignore them or "sideline" them at your peril, Jeffries, Schumer, and centrists.
I am investing in tumbril stock for the post-Regime Leader Trump political scene. Democrats will, finally, be keeping those little carts busy dispensing justice. Does anyone know how to play “March to the Scaffold” from Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique?
You are wise to point these things out. Throw in the whole "Blue Dog Democrat" concept popularized by folks like Clinton and Carville, and you've got yourself reasons why Dems should be humble right about now.
And isn't it vintage Republicans to leave Obama--a black man who was holding America together as if it were bound by twine--with the damage of the 2008 financial crisis. That really put him in a pickle. I believe that folks like Barney Frank were directly or indirectly implicated in the genesis of the whole thing, though, so maybe fair's fair.....
At any rate, Dems should be absolutely trouncing the GOP in opinion polls now, but alas they are not. Much of that is due to utter ignominy on the part of Limbaugh and trolls like him, but some of it is simply that the Dems lost touch with blue collar folks a long time ago and their version of "Republican-Lite" didn't work out so well because they are basically a cheap imitation.
Add in overwrought identity politics and it all adds up to why the Dems aren't heroes at a time like this.
Blue collar folks you are taking about are racist as hell and part of the Trump cult. They are not gettable because Dems are not racist enough for them. Biden gave unions their pension bailout and they went for Trump.
In 2026, of course you are largely right. However, I was referring to decades-past, back when the Dems started to lose unions and blue collar folks. The fact that billionaires and all kinds of capitalistic types are gung-ho for Trump nowadays shows how foolish this was on the Dems' part.

Unbelievable! EVERYONE needs to read this & the Democratic Party MUST rebuild a better America.

I certainly hope the democrats are "listening" ...

I think not being seen as the workers party is a part of it

100% CORRECT!!!
Let's hope the D's get their act together. A definite concern.
There’s also an issue that the Democrats don’t typically do any deep canvassing away from elections.
I am investing in tumbril stock for the post-Regime Leader Trump political scene. Democrats will, finally, be keeping those little carts busy dispensing justice. Does anyone know how to play “March to the Scaffold” from Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique?

By overwrought identity politics, I take it you mean Trump and MAGA.
I wasn't referring to them, no. But I do see that they are currently in the pole position for rabidly extreme identity politics believers, yes.
Blue collar folks you are taking about are racist as hell and part of the Trump cult. They are not gettable because Dems are not racist enough for them. Biden gave unions their pension bailout and they went for Trump.
The ones who are “as racist as hell” or who prioritise that viewpoint haven’t voted left wing for a long time.

Culture wars was always what motivated them.
