Now that your party no longer exist, what will you do in 2028? I’m a bit left of center and have always respected right of center Republicans, but these folk no longer have a place in a two party system. I don’t expect that system to change for a long, long time if ever.

Isn’t it ironic that he increased his share of Black and Latino votes that gave him the win by 1.3%

Thank you for that honest, yet disturbing analysis of the republican racist party. What's next for republicans? How Native American genocide helped everyone. Were concentration camps really that cruel? Is puntin killing and kidnapping Ukrainian children because he loves them? Was Stalin really cruel? Was Jim Crow a myth? I guess nothing is too low for republicans...

Unlike Germany who owned their past and cracked down on the poison to make sure it never happened again, we have never really punished the "maybe slavery wasn't so bad" part of our society. When and if we survive this Trumpian period, our poison should be treated like what it is and be permanently stricken from society: outlawed, made illegal, punishable by (you name it).

I have to believe it's not just the leader of our country but "white" people in general don't seem to understand just what people of color have gone through in the country for centuries. I think "HE" should read the People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn to get some perspectives. And the Christian Nationalists need to do so as well. Have the white people did to not just the black slaves that they owned but the Native Americans as well was horrible.

Great piece Stu. Looks like the GOP has thrown away the dog whistle, although Lee Atwater using Willie Horton was hardly subtle.

Stuart, you said so yourself - It was all a lie. I am not unique here: the Republican Party has never given me a candidate I can vote for. I am Jewish, white, and female. Tell me when the Republican Party ever gave a damn about Jewish white females? Rhetorical.

Maybe the Democrats "suck" at messaging. Maybe they should return to the days of a party platform with "planks" explaining their goals when elected. But - it will continue to remain graven in stone that Republicans care not a jot for women - white, Jewish, or otherwise.

Yes, now that we know that, what do we do about it. I just wrote the following to The NY Times - To the editor:

Can you explain, please, why you publish so many articles similar to

"Trump Says Smithsonian Focuses Too Much on ‘How Bad Slavery Was’”

Time and again, you publish an article like this one which serves to expose our president’s intellectual ignorance and his total lack of any reasonable guide of moral values?

Why? What purpose to you believe you are serving? You describe accurately his latest ignorant outburst without any comment. You are like a varation of the old joke, “This looks like a …, feels like a …, smells like a …., tastes like a …. Good thing we didn’t step in it. The trouble is you can’t even take credit for the punchline, because you do “step in it” every time! You draw attention to his offensive inanities without ever drawing conclusions about what they mean. Again, I ask you - WHY??? Is the purpose just to give this hapless narcissist what he craves?

WHY???

Respectfully submitted.

No amount of Trumpwashing would convince any decent person that slavery was anything less than an abomination. He can change what he likes, and there will always be a racist undercurrent in the United States…but once we abandon Trumpism we’ll make it very uncomfortable to say the racist part out loud.

Wonderfully said Stuart. Democratic party looks like America--The Republicans are movement for white power. You said it clearly. Thank you.
