I read one of Evan's first posts on Lincoln Square back in the spring. His voice fills a void - that I could not really recognize - until I read his piece. Really nice to hear him - reassuring tone and cadence that is desperately needed. My entry into politics was immediately after the 2016 election. I assumed we would all wake up and have conversations based on "reason". As hard as it was to accept that "reason" cannot argue with "insanity", there was a blessing. Storytelling, building resilience, being able to articulate our fears around the unknown - are all far more interesting conversations than policy. Thank you for this conversation and modeling vulnerability.
Very good conversation. I needed to hear your cheerful voice Maya. And hearing Evan say in a calm and quiet voice what he would say to young men, "Everything is going to be okay." Even I felt good hearing that. Your story of what you are now doing was helpful. This was a conversation I needed to hear at the end of a very busy day. Here is a piece from my story: Years ago when the world seemed like chaos or scary my Mom would say, "Everything will be okay." Well, and so it was. Thanks Maya and Evan. Take care.
Thanks so much for your kind words and for watching, Maxine. I really do believe we are going to be okay — there are so many regular people speaking out and trying something new and it’s inspiring. We just have to carry that into the midterms!
