Great piece, and I see how it ties to the NRCC memo. But I noticed that the memo in the link was released over a year ago, on 7/28/25, just a few weeks after the big ugly bill was signed into law. Not sure that really changes anything. Just wondering about the mix of current events with a year-old memo.
For malignant narcissists - individuals or organizations that behave as such - accusations are confessions, projection & propaganda & gaslighting are almost reflexive. Dems as radicals? Hardly. In much of Europe electeds like Mamdani would if anything be solid centrists. Americans have come to expect so little as public goods and services, largely thanks to a decades-long corporatist RW assault on the unfinished FDR New Deal. Rank & file Dems understand the assignment but does Ken Martin? Schumer & Jeffries? I fear not.
Democrats understand. Independent voters are getting it too. Principled non-MAGA Republicans are waking up to the fact that their fiscal responsibility and social moderation are not shared by MAGA. None of us buy the “war between the Dems”. being promoted by irresponsible journalism. Turnout is going to be massive, and nom-MAGAs of all stripes will begin the process of ridding America of this thing. We are exhausted, we are angry, and we can do this.
One recalls President Andrew Shepherd’s final speech in the movie The American President. Of his Republican opponent, Senator Rumsen, Shepherd says. “Whatever your problem is, Bob Rumsen has no intention of solving it. He’s interested in two things and two things only. making you afraid of it and telling you who to blame for it.”
Great reporting. This belongs right up there with the muckrakers whose reporting helped bring down the Fat Cats near the end of the Golden Age a hundred years ago.
