There is a reason that the phrase "don't shoot the messenger" exists and it's because messengers bringing bad news to the man in power did sometimes kill the messenger. Free speech is a noble and necessary idea in a democracy. There are limits however. Your speech cannot put others in danger. The murder, yes, murder, not any of the other labels being suggested, of Kirk was both terrible and also unwise. Unwise because it immediately became another tool for the autocratic administration trying to undo our democracy. If your speech becomes a real threat, a threat to your very existence, to anyone that accepts your words as a real possibility, then you cannot be unaware of possible dire consequences. People have been murdered for more inconsequential speech. When your speech is mostly about the denigration of certain groups of people, it is likely a good idea to not speak in a public area.

Ah, but they do care. Just as The Inquisition cared for the victims of its torture. In their minds they were saving immortal souls; giving them a few hours of pain here for avoidance of infinite pain in the afterlife.
With all love and respect, Joe, you are still trying to win a gunfight with a knife; or to extinguish an oil refinery fire without being willing to consider closure of it's crude oil input pipeline. Please try at least the first few pages of my essay, at www.thelastbesthope.xyz ; and then, if you're willing, let us discuss.
A very good article on the plight of our school children. I'm afraid that we have become numb to school shootings, which says a very bad thing about our society. We love our guns (some of us) more than our children. I grew up with guns and was taught to use them safely. But the world has changed a lot in the 77 years I have been here and not always for the better. I do know that the answer is NOT more guns. Any other solutions I have are not popular with the people in power, so does not get much traction. When I write my Congressman, (GOP) about the school shootings, if I get a reply, it is to remind me of the second admendment, which is covered in the blood of school children who have been sacrificed. We will never find a good answer until they stop waving that around.
Given the recent events under the tutelage of the Trump Regime I would like to recommend a book by Umberto Eco, “How To Spot A Fascist”, which includes a powerful essay on “Ur-Fascism.” For the book Eco draws on his own experiences living under Mussolini’s Fascist government. The essay on Ur-Fascism describes its characteristics removing any doubt of what you are witnessing.
When we granted citizenship to the gun, the game was up for the flesh and blood citizen. That our children, among others, bear testimony to this should be shouted from the pulpit, the street corner, and the stump, not strangled in the board room or the timidity of Congress.
We must remove money from politics and reform all policies and laws related to lobbying, as well as the practice of elected officials purchasing and trading stocks. Right now, we literally have convicted criminals running the country who have ties to organized crime.
School shootings have never garnered the sort of outrage that killing on prominent mouthpiece does….and they never will we will destroy our Constitution for Charlie Kirk, but we won’t even take look at refining our second amendment to save young lives. There’s something deeply wrong here.

Thank you for expressing my own thoughts.
