He has a tough road to hoe, but if he has enough of his mother's toughness I believe he will be successful. The fact that his last name isn't Kennedy should make no difference. After what we've been experiencing in the White House he will most likely be like Mamdani and new rising star in a party that truly needs the fuel of more "younger" blood than we have presently. Times are changing and our country has to accept the fact that 80+ year old men just can't govern like 40ish younger folks can and they need to wake up and smell the coffee and accept it. Thank you Evan for all you write!
Had time to think about this again. First, I lived in the so-called Camelot years. Wasn't a fan. Thought the talk of Camelot was silly. Camelot was a myth perpetuated by the press. However, no knights in shining armor in those years. Icky behavior was just under cover. One bright outcome: The Kennedy Center. Not sure when the Kennedy Center came about but really liked that push of up lifting the performing arts, and outstanding artists in music, acting, dance, directing, etc.. Now back to Schlossberg. So, I agree, Schlossberg path forward is a challenge for him to live with his family and his experiences, which seems quite privileged, and to travel down a path that a younger populist left leaning Democratic party is seeking. You asked the right question. Can he "thread that needle"? Thank you, Evan. Take care.
Evan, I love your substack and never miss a posting. I'm a 71 year old retired nurse who lived through the Camelot years. Yes, they were rich and the Camelot era projected by Jackie and Arthur Schlesinger blurred the edges to mask the wandering eyes of JFK and RFK. But despite their faults I do believe they were sincere and actually SAW the plight of Americans who were less privileged. Your column today is right on target and I sense that same sincerity in Jack Schlossberg. Its extremely gratifying to see young voices like his, and yours, rising up. We need more of you. It's time for the old guard to step aside and let you take the lead
Very interesting article. Just one correction: JFK Jr. is not Schlossberg's uncle; he is his first cousin. JFK Sr, brother of Schlossberg's mother, is the uncle.
Still, a very interesting read. I'm going to be watching this guy.
This was a very nice and interesting and informative article. Some of us like myself were born during his grandfather’s administration ! If he decides to run for office! Definitely support him. Yes there a lot myths told about the Kennedy family! My beloved father campaigned for grand uncle. He felt ending the war in Vietnam was imperative ! Evan thank you! There is no Camelot here just a person seeking office!
