I just read on Reuters that ICE is being sent to the Winter Olympics in Italy. WTF?? Why? What do they think they are going to do there? Italian people aren’t going to put up with trump’s shit. I guess they haven’t heard of the Mafia. ICE might get the justice they deserve. I for one, sure hope so!
This isn’t an allegory of what might happen. It is a prescient warning of what will happen. This is always the results of an authoritarian overreach, a constant drubbing of people by government thugs. When people are constantly repressed by being brutalized or killed there is usually a breaking point and a terrible reaction. We are at that point with the Trump regime. They are lawless, amoral thugs who lie and misinform with the ease of a carnival barker. Our congress can and should act to reign in and stop the atrocities but the controlling party is so corrupted by power and greed they will not. The minority party is so ineffectual and timid that they we can’t count on them. Frustration and desperation are the results. Peaceful protest are the baited field for Trump’s thugs and an armed attack on protesters is inevitable. The Republican controlled congress owns this disaster and must act immediately to stop the insanity.

I have also been thinking about the 'Boston Massacre’, and while I fully agree that Minneapolis is now in a similar state of tinder, Mr Wilson fails to finish the story of that cold night. The incident, which began when a hat-maker’s apprentice started taunting a young British army sentry with insults about the sentry’s officer, finally causing the sentry to bash the kid over the head with his musket butt. From there, it rapidly escalated into the tragedy it became, catapulting a mulatto sailer named Crispus Attucks into American immortality, giving a Boston artist and silversmith an opportunity to display his art in an etching that distorted the ‘massacre’ in much the same fashion as Kristi Noem’s and JD Vance’s attempts to distort both Good’s and Pretti’s murder, and gave additional ammunition to a Boston radical in his ongoing attempts to stir the already boiling pot in Boston into just the kind of violent reaction Donald Trump would love to foment in Minneapolis.
But the aftermath wouldn’t fit Mr Wilson’s intentions. The soldiers who fired into the crowd that night, along with their officer were put on trial in Boston, and largely exonerated due to the skill and acumen of John Adams, an utter rule-of-law advocate. Absent video footage, he put every witness he could find on the stand and established beyond doubt that the soldiers had been legitimately in fear for their physical safety. And BTW, that their firing may well have been caused by dares and shouts to “Fire!” from the crowd, which the soldiers may have mistaken for orders from their officer.
I say all this not at all to downplay what happened to both Renee Good and Alex Pretti, to question the legitimacy of the American exit from British rule, or to excuse what ICE is doing in Minneapolis, but to caution against using distortions of our history to prove points in the same way the Trump administration is constantly doing in order to advance his autocratic agenda.

In the rural town that I live in Colorado, ICE leave gang type death cards inside the cars of people they kidnap as a threat to them and their families and our community.
This is exactly what trump meant when he said that "he" could shoot someone on Fifth Ave and not lose a single voter. I have little hope that the horror of this moment will cut through the MAGA faithful meaningfully because they have become empty husks of howling tribalism and rage. Everything that should outrage them, that outrages us normies, is just another dopamine hit feeding their sadistic addiction to dominate in any/every way possible.
I recall Kent State. I was in Jr. High and the adults around me were crowing with ignorant bluster, "Damn right. Those punks had it coming." I only saw the horror of the dead kids just a few years older than myself and the open tyranny and something hardened inside of me to resist. Their kids may witness and judge them but I expect little from the 30-35% all in on that evil carnival barker.
