Lisa and Susan, I thoroughly enjoyed your wonderful discussion which was articulate, intelligent and true! You mention the importance of "getting the word out to everyone," and I of course agree. What percentage of voting eligible people do you thing you are reaching? If you are just preaching to the choir, that won't be nearly enough. What is your plan for reaching far more people? How will you do it, and how much will it cost? What will donations actually be used for? How will you counteract Fox News and the President's highly paid public affairs team? You may be the best of so many commentators, but I do not see change happening? Do you? If so, is it measurable? Where is the data?
Thanks for the recommendation of David Pepper's "Saving Democracy." I am really looking forward to it, hoping that what you said about it being a manual with practical steps. Again, though, I have to wonder, how many members of the voting eligible public will be moved to read Pepper's book, and how many will act on it?
Love your eloquent contributions. You never miss a beat nor a sentient point. I hope all your weather is good. I’ve spent a few basement nights on the air mattress. Concrete is cold even in the summer. I spent the last night there because I knew I was too old to get down there safely with my elderly dog so we cuddled until the dawn and my fat ass was frozen. I can’t imagine the victims of the Tx flood. I hate this. But thank you for your contributions. We can do this.
Tuned out is a perfect comment. They don’t want to hear but then they scream where did it go? F*ing idiots. That would include my maga parents and I am 68 tomorrow. We know who will be taking care of their dumb asses. Love your contributions.
The reason Thom Tillis, one of the most partisan and conservative republicans in the senate, voted against the MAGA Murder Bill was because he understands the state of North Carolina. 78 out of 100 counties are rural. 1.2 million North Carolinians live in those rural counties and rely on Medicaid. Without Medicaid reimbursement, hospitals can't afford to treat Medicaid patients, nor even continue to operate. This legislation takes a sledgehammer to vulnerable people who will have to travel miles and miles to the nearest hospital. People will literally die waiting for help because of this legislation. That's certainly nothing to celebrate.
