Trump's Disrespect for Veterans Should Worry You | Anchor Watch with Bobby Jones

It's not just about narcissism; it's about a failure to keep us secure. Plus: the growing crisis with FEMA.

Every Memorial Day with Trump in Office (there have now been five, God help us) is a stark reminder of exactly how little he cares about those men and women who have served, who are are serving, who will serve, and — worst of all — who have paid the ultimate price on our behalf.

These speeches, like his speech at West Point he gave wearing a clearly partisan MAGA hat, also provide a pretty clear glimpse into the mind of a narcissist. Who the hell uses a speech meant to honor our fallen heroes to talk about DEI, Al Capone, immigration, golf, and the 1950s real estate developer, William Levitt?

A narcissist. These bites will certainly make for good fodder on the late-night shows, but as comically grotesque as they are, they are leaving us flat-footed and unprepared for the realities of global conflict in the coming years.

The keyword is service. Our men and women in uniform spend their lives in service to defending the Constitution and, therefore, to us. Trump is subverting that. He views our military — and, let’s be honest, all state and federal personnel and resources—as being in service to him, and him alone.

When a crisis pops up — and it will — Pete Hegseth will not take the course of action that serves us. He will ask himself what best serves Trump’s personal interests. Sometimes, Trump’s personal interest and the interest of the American people align. It’s not great for Trump OR the rest of us to be invaded by a hostile army, for example.

But this won’t always be the case. Don’t laugh off Trump’s buffoonery at West Point. To the millions of men and women who have fought, and for those who have paid the ultimate price, it’s not funny.

Bobby breaks this all down in his Anchor Point. Later, he goes Below the Waterline to deep dive into the collapse of FEMA and why this is especially critical this year (if you’re squeamish, don’t look up the general forecasts for the Northern Hemisphere this summer).

And, as always, he opens up the Smoke Deck and takes your questions. Do you have questions for next week? Post them in the comments and Bobby will try to get to them on air.

We’ll be back to our regular time next week: 12pm Eastern. Don’t miss it! And for your viewing pleasure, below is a four second clip that embodies, pretty much, all you need to know about Trump’s Memorial Day.
