Emotions And Voting: Democratic Party Political Messaging

Americans are concerned about the $$ that the Nazi Republicans are going to throw at the 2026 midterms and 2028. As Thom Hartmann has said people respond to pleasure and pain but they react more aggressively and immediately to pain, like the reaction to a hot stove. But they also respond to pleasure which is why the political message to the electorate must include both aspects of pain and pleasure.

So one can spin the message of the fascist danger that the Nazi Republicans pose but the political messaging must include what one can do for the electorate such as affordability, housing, and many policy reforms such as voting, immigration, and court reform.

When one looks at the Democratic messaging it’s one of pleasure ie what one can do for the electorate and less about calling out the dangers whereas the Nazi Republican political messaging is the converse, ie short on pleasure except for tax relief and long on name calling and shouting out the dangers of socialism and cultural issues like transphobia.

It seems like the Democratic messaging needs to be more balanced. Yes, policy statements as to what the government can do for the people is important but more aggressive rhetorical attacks toward what the Nazi Republicans are and what they represent is in order. This is at least in part why the American electorate is becoming unhappy with the Democratic party.

This society ruined my family when a family member back in the 60’s became a member. She did die happily because Trump won, but I sure know many people hurt by the polices of hate that led to Sen. Joseph McCarty’s win in Wisconsin leading the anti-Semitic attacks that the state liked Communists and the University was too liberal. Like now, it was not enjoyable to see hate against “others” who were working hard and paying taxes.

Do you ever wonder how everyday Germans grew to hate Jews in the 1930s? It was due to propaganda messaging from highly connected Nazi officials. Constant messaging broadcast to the public did the trick.

AIRBNB and everything like it needs to be shitcanned forever. We have to be more disciplined and stop paying money to people who want to hurt other people for fun.

If I remember correctly, John Birch was supposed to be. the first U.S. soldier killed by the Communists. In the Korean War maybe? Anyhow, give a listen to the great song “John Birch Society” by Chad Mitchell Trio.

I came here to say the same thing! I sang that song as a young person, and I still remember the whole first verse. "And we'll see you in the john, in the john, in the john -- in the John Birch Society . . ."

The Kingston Trio did a remake of their song during George W. Bush’s presidency named “the George Bush Society.”

As with the original, it was the Chad Mitchell Trio -- I keep thinking it was the Kingston Trio too!

You’re correct, it was the Chad Mitchell Trio. The JBS hasn’t changed its paranoid worldview at all.

John Birch was a captain who was also a Baptist missionary. He got killed because he made a Chinese Communist officer lose face before his men. J. Frank Norris, then in the last days of his pastorate at First Baptist of Dallas, made John Birch a household name and Robert Welch decided to name his new conspiracy group after Birch. The JBS used to be located in Belmont, MA, but now their headquarters are in McCarthy’s hometown, Appleton, WI.

Gebbia is repeating BS, as is JD Vance. Airbnb is helping to reduce affordable housing stock in vacation and city areas. Undocumented people can’t afford fancy housing, and they definitely can’t afford to buy McMansions or stay in Airbnbs. The real reason is a decline in affordable housing, which is more due to government policies than the presence of undocumented people. Undocumented residents often live in substandard housing and sometimes in illegally subdivided properties which may be hazardous in the event of fires.

Growing up in the Boston suburbs, I knew that the JBS was local. Robert Welch's brother James O. Welch founded the Welch Candy Company -- Sugar Daddys, Sugar Babies, and Junior Mints were staples of my diet growing up in Massachusetts. (By this time the company had been bought by Nabisco.) Funny thing, I just went to the JBS site. It claims that *Robert* founded the candy company. In real life, Robert's candy company went bust and he joined his brother's.

All I can do is shake my head. I went to protest our newly elected Congressman at his town hall in our area. I believe that was 2022. (PS,,,we flipped the seat in 2024 and working to keep it 2026). Back to my story. There was nice well-dressed gentleman handing out info. Was stunned to realize the info he was promoting was the John Brich Society. That surprised many of us old enough to have grown up in the cold war era.

Also, I didn't know about the new National Design Studio..Was this created by Trump? Well, another thing we don't need that sounds like something good until we see that it is not.

Thanks Don Moynihan. Good article and very enlightening.

LOL as if his own business model isn't a chief cause in traditional vacation/retirement venues like lake/mountain/resort towns and shoreline areas and in the walkable center of large cities. Pants. On. Fire.
