I always love your articles but at this point Prof. Ealy I am beyond caring about a detailed rundown of Trump’s abuses and absurdities. We need to simplify.

Yes he is a clown. Yes he embarrasses us daily. But we need to simplify.

Yesterday he crossed a bright line he has never crossed before. At least not in public. He demanded the general staff sign on to his fascist takeover or else end their careers.

I think we need to simplify and focus on that. For me, I believe now is the time to demand his removal. Based on that one theme. Keep it simple.

Whatever it takes for people to reach that point, sure, keep trying. But I am convinced that with time most of us will get to the point where only his removal is an outcome we can accept.

Thank you for this thoughtful essay. While I totally agree with you, I also agree with Patrick's post that we need to simplify. In his 2021 book, “Eight Days in May,” German historian Volker Ullrich chronicles the final week of WWII in Europe. He describes a POW camp for German officers outside of London, and quotes one of them, who upon learning of Germany’s surrender and Hitler’s suicide says, “You repeatedly clutch your head in disbelief that we all followed this lunatic.” Trump is a lunatic. You touch on the valid point that the media gives Trump the courtesy of the need to be heard out, and are quite correct that instead they should be calling him out for "peddling horseshit." They should be describing him for the lunatic he is. Simple as that.
