This is excellent. It is imperative that independents and Republicans face the truth of what the party has become.
A challenge is that so many voters do not have the time to follow the detailed arguments or cope with the information overload
The result is they listen to folks they respect and look for broad themes. Can you please help empower this with a simple, enduring argument that makes the case why now is the time for independents and Republicans to turn their back on Trump and his maga allies?
There are still too many Republicans who support him, and too many Republican “leaders” who are afraid of that.
The Nazi Republicans Should Not Be Allowed To Govern For At Least 10y
The current Nazi Republican political movement guided by Project 2025’s white supremacist agenda has shown who they are This Christian Nationalist movement that the Nazi Republicans has fully supported really started in the Reagan years and finally has evolved to show its true racist, homophobic, xenophobic, fraudulent, dishonest, anti social safety net and pro wealth So greed is the Nazi Republican policy, pure and simple, NOT governing Americans are showing that they are completely against money in politics and they’re voting against politicians and AIPAC’s who are pushing their dollars to buy elections
By polling the American electorate is overwhelmingly opposed to such a government power grab by the greedy wealthy, aka oligarchs, and the only thing left for the Nazi propaganda machine led by right wing media channels such as Fox is to throw as much money as they can to try to influence the electorate But over and over again this “bribery” will not work as Musk found out in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race
Cheeto and his Nazi Republican allies figured they could buy their way to dictatorship with the help of oligarches but WE the People have different ideas about resisting big money in politics
The term "conservative" has definitely changed from when I started following politics. My understanding of the GOP was they were solidly pro-business, while the Democrats were pro-labor/working people.
Having grown up in a New-Deal Democratic family, I leaned strongly towards JFK and RFK (Sr), then McCarthy and McGovern, and eventually Carter. In the late 1970s I read The National Review for a couple of years to learn the viewpoint of the Right as it was then constituted. I began to entertain the possibility that conservative economic theory might be correct about what was best for the economy. Laffer curve, anyone?
Watching Reagan's first several months in office confirmed to me that it was literally pro-business as usual, as his administration went on a deregulation spree (corporate consolidation, banking safeguards, environmental standards) which went beyond what was promised (and therefore what voters expected), and well beyond what was good for the majority of the American people. It was the first major salvo in the movement that had really come into focus with the Powell Memorandum, and has seen it's realization in Project 2025.
Today's "conservatives" are not conservative at all. They are ideological extremists who, although in the minority, want to impose what they believe are their superior beliefs on the majority. And in the mix are an assortment of grifters, racist haters, and power freaks who want to impose these beliefs on all Americans, by force if necessary.
Texas has become a cesspool of extremists Republicans. Every religious person (Jews, Christians, Hindu…) needs to denounce these inflammatory ads. It plays right into Hamas’s hands by radicalizing those who otherwise would enter mainstream American ideals of tolerance and religious freedom.
A fantastic read and reminder that America has not been able to live up to its promises but had promise. At no time in my life did I hear so many speak about the end of America as now. Deeply disturbing. Our president has failed us by not celebrating our differences and disagreements. Think about this: who else besides Trump is to blame for the current state of affairs? We easily could have been struggling as we were but still progressing and maintaining our world view, flawed as it was. He’s broken the cycle and only offered his greed in return.
I live in the South and am surrounded by people who settle in at the end of the day and watch Fox. They always vote Republican because they have always voted Republican because for 20 years the “news” they chose told them that Democrats are stupid and evil. We know that Fox paid Dominion $787M because the attorneys for Dominion were so effective at demonstrating that Fox anchors lied when they said the voting machines changed votes, and they knew that they were lying when they said it. Fox had little choice other than paying that settlement. But people who watch Fox will not believe it.
I've been a life long Democrat but I too believe in a lot of what you believe. Corruption has no place in government, lies have no place in government, irresponsibility has no place in government. Loyalty is good but inept qualifications are not. Those that work in government SHOULD qualify for the jobs they are doing. Otherwise it's pretty obvious when they are doing jobs they have no idea how to do. Oh and to wrap it up, I believe in the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights and all other rights that are written in both of them. I believe in law enforcement (not thuggery), I think a person is innocent until proven guilty and should go through the proper places to either determine whether innocent or guilty. I don't believe that those who are on the streets of some of our blue states have the right to "personally" determine who should be arrested or who should be shot. I made the mistake long ago, thinking those guys were actually trained not to shoot first and ask questions later. I also do NOT like being called a "far left radical terrorist" by anyone when I'm not. I think the "free" things in our country should remain free which means that if something you see isn't right you have a right to say so without being persecuted.
We need leaders from both parties to rise up together and fight like hell to protect our democracy. We the people elected these "politicians" who are supposed to represent us. Protest, write letters and call your state reps/senators. Let the anger speak !!! What happened to the Equal Rights Amendment, getting the deficit under control, health care, etc. I wish we could withhold paychecks for all members of Congress until they get some work done!
It’s time for blue states to stop funding this malevolence and thuggery. Dr. Nancy I feel as strongly as you do. Collectively we are not doing nearly enough. We need concerts for both humanity and democracy. Everyone who cares about democracy needs to act while there is still time. Enough is enough!
I grew up in a very Republican family - both sides serving in public office and teaching me and my sisters about volunteering and service to community. My parents and grandparents would be horrified at the Republican Party of today. I’ve always prided myself on reading and learning about every candidate running for office but today if they say they are R, they have lost my support. It will take much for the Rs to get me back. Not that I find the Democrats at the national level all that noteworthy. Courage is sorely lacking baring a few individuals to be admired.
Well done ... the magas who suffer from tds (we are not deranged they are following in their leader's footsteps and act like him : deranged.) may no answer to your questions be "for me but not for thee"..
Thank you Trygve. I know I am a patriot and I believe in the Constitution although written by old white men who never imagined my life. I hope the Supremes can manage their beliefs
The Republican Party is dead.
It had long stopped being the Party of Lincoln, but it still had its share of 20th-century statesmen.
Eisenhower, Teddy Roosevelt, Rockefeller, George H.W. Bush
But the lyin’ King put an end to all of that.
He stuck the Party with his steely knife and twisted with all his vileness.
Congressional Republicans dug the blade deeper until they collectively killed the beast.
So all those "conservatives" who used to walk around with a pocket Constitution were just performing after all.
This is excellent. It is imperative that independents and Republicans face the truth of what the party has become.

Good article, however I strongly disagree with you labeling ‘integrity’ as a conservative value.

Weird, when every time FOX gets sued it defends itself basically the same way, "Oh we're just funnin' here; everybody's in on the joke."

Actually the mental disease which ought to concern us the most is TAS (Trump Addiction Syndrome)
Excellent, thank you. Quite simply put, there is nothing at all Conservative here.
