The Lincoln Logue — Week of April 28th
Your guide to life under Trump 2.0. Welcome to the inaugural issue.
We made it to the end of another week — but at what cost?
Well, that was an awful first 100 days. If you’ve been feeling like time is a flat circle made of lawsuits, executive orders, and economic whiplash, you’re not alone. Welcome to The Lincoln Logue, the newsletter where we track the chaos of the Trump administration 2.0, as well as headlines concerning the Democratic Party (leadership, strategy moves, etc.), and the world.
This is our first edition — the pilot, the premiere, the point of no return. We’ll be doing this every week: rounding up the biggest national and international headlines from the Trump circus in one compact, researched package.
My name is CJ Penneys (he/him). I am a 25-year-old Jew from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy. I’m also a researcher for and now a contributor to Lincoln Square.
At Lincoln Square, we understand that simply noting what Trump is doing, what the Democrats are doing (or aren’t doing) is inadequate in this moment. We don’t want to merely complain about all the chaos, but to sound the alarm with the goal of informing, empowering, and mobilizing. Lincoln Square exists to be a force for truth and courage in a perilous time, building a community of people from across the ideological spectrum who share the core belief that democracy and the rule of law are essential to who we are as Americans.
Rage is good. But organized rage? That’s better. So thanks for being here.
This week was, once again, a lot to take in …
Whether it was J.D. Vance being the tie-breaking vote in the Senate attempting to stop Trump’s tariffs, an executive order to stop federal funding to PBS and NPR (or as Trump puts it “ENDING TAXPAYER SUBSIDIZATION OF BIASED MEDIA”), or going after sanctuary cities.
Settle in. Get a safety blanket. Laugh if you can. Cry if you must. Organize, protest, unsubscribe from Jared Kushner’s crypto newsletter. You’re among friends now.
Let’s recap the week — together.
Monday, April 28 – Executive Orders Target Immigration and Law Enforcement
President Trump signed an executive order titled "Protecting American Communities from Criminal Aliens," directing state and federal officials to publish lists of sanctuary jurisdictions and the crimes committed by undocumented immigrants therein.
Another order, "Strengthening and Unleashing America's Law Enforcement," was issued to provide federal support to law enforcement officers and agencies, including legal assistance and resources.
These actions are part of a broader immigration crackdown nearing Trump's 100th day in office.
