This was an absolutely terrific interview and can't wait to read the book. But as a former Russia, FSU, correspondent, I'm very interested in the relationship with China he touched on with Russia. A documentary film made in the early Putin days, called The Russia We Lost, on the border land with China, showed the anger and enmity of the Russians living there, because they were living like the poorest peasants, while just across the border the standard of living was much higher under China, and more modern. Under Putin, the remote provinces are still neglected, except for military recruitment -- as cannon fodder.

I wonder how far Edward thinks the relationship can go now. It's vitally important in the tRump era, as he points out, other countries are desperately seeking stability and turning to trade with China. And perhaps coincidentally, the condemnations that followed the takeover of Hong Kong, and the severe rights violations of Uyghurs have died down now.

If indeed the "working middle class" comes to the realization that the oligarchy exists and is the enemy, then the party affiliations pollsters keep assuming will mean nothing anymore. The anti-Trump movement, which is an anti-oligarch movement, then can't be meaningfully construed as Repub vs.Dem, which is what the Trumpists keep claiming when they assert that the Dems are their enemy. If this change is indeed happening, then familiar oppositions, like the so-called college educated "elites" vs. the "working class," disappear because both of these groups achieve solidarity through (1) their common status as workers and (2) their joint victimization in an economic system controlled by the mega-rich. If that change occurs, and there are signs that it might be, then no matter how much redrawing of maps state legislatures do, redistricting on the basis of former voting patterns won't capture the new solidarity. Red vs, Blue becomes meaningless, unless Red, say, means pro-oligarch and Blue means pro worker.

It’s May Day: Time To Economically Protest

No School No Work No Shopping Today has been designated as an economic boycott America’s middle class has seen enough of the attempted plutocratic takeover of our government and the day recognizes the economic power that has made this country great

WE the People are standing for democracy and boycotting the billionaires who take advantage of the working middle class in an effort to undermine our government while they try to control it for their advantage They have been given so much but it’s never enough It’s the never-ending theme of more and in this case “why not use this massive amount of wealth to control their economic destiny by corrupting the government

This is the French Revolution 2.0, American style with the working middle class, tired of the inflationary rise in the cost of living, making it harder to make ends meet on strained budgets, put a hand on the scale of economic justice to demand more of a Nazi government regime hell bent on suppressing Americans and their rights
