Texas Republicans’ Redistricting Power Grab: An Attack on Democracy
This isn’t some far-off banana republic. It’s happening here. And every American must rise up against this.

In the sweltering heat of late summer politics, something chilling is unfolding in Texas — and if left unchecked, will poison the very heart of American democracy.
Texas Republicans, emboldened by Donald Trump’s ongoing campaign of vengeance and false grievance, are drafting new congressional maps designed to eliminate five Democratic-held districts. This isn’t just partisan gamesmanship — it’s an unprecedented, open-air power grab, aimed at silencing voters and punishing political opponents.
Let’s be clear: this isn’t about “fair representation” or “updating the maps.” It’s about nullifying the will of millions of Texans, and further warping a system already straining under gerrymandering, voter suppression, and political extremism.
In response, Democratic legislators in Texas are once again taking extraordinary steps — even leaving the state — to deny Republicans the quorum needed to ram through this redistricting scheme. These lawmakers are risking their careers and personal safety to defend your right to choose who represents you. But this cannot fall on their shoulders alone.
This moment demands more than partisan outrage or casual concern. It demands a nationwide response from every American willing to put country over party and the United States of America over tribe.
Every American who cares about free and fair elections — whether you live in Texas or not — must recognize the national stakes. Because if Texas Republicans succeed Trump's grab for absolute power gains and our democracy erodes further under his assault.
We’ve seen this before: leaders who can’t win fairly decide to change the rules. But this isn’t some far-off banana republic. It’s happening here. Now.
What Can You Do?
Get loud. Get organized. Get in the streets.
We need millions of Americans — from every state, every background — to participate in non-violent, peaceful protest. We must fill public squares, surround state capitols, organize rallies in our towns, and show the country that we will not allow our democracy to be carved up behind closed doors.
History teaches us that when people rise together in peaceful resistance, the powerful take notice. That’s what this moment calls for — not just tweets or hashtags, but real-world, visible resistance that forces elected officials to confront the people they claim to represent.
And yes — call every Republican officeholder in your state, especially those who have remained silent while democracy is dismantled in broad daylight. Demand they go on record: Do they support this political scorched-earth assualt? Do they stand for democracy or for Trump’s authoritarian ambitions?
Make it clear: Silence is complicity.
Strategy Session | Texas Dems Leave the State to Save It
When Trump called Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to demand he find more seats for Republican victories in ‘26, Abbott said, “Sure.” Of course, this isn’t how redistricting is done. Generally, you redistrict after the census arrives every decade because you have a mathematical imperative. Over the previous ten years, your state’s demographics likely shifted somewhat. People moved from here to there, some districts gained significant numbers, and some maybe lost numbers. You have to account for that.
This is not about being a Democrat or Republican. It’s about whether voters — all voters — get to pick their leaders, or whether leaders get to pick their voters.
Our system works only when both parties play by the same rules. If one side abandons those rules — and faces no pushback — the entire foundation cracks. So push back loud and hard.
So yes, cheer on the Texas Democrats holding the line. But don’t stop there.
This is your fight, too.
Democracy doesn’t fail all at once. It fails in pieces — with every gerrymandered map, every silenced voice, every cynical move that prioritizes power over people. If we allow Texas Republicans to go unchallenged, we are inviting that failure to spread.
It’s time to fight back. Peacefully. Forcefully. Together.
Stand up. Speak out. March. Organize. Call. Protest. The future of our republic may well depend on what we do next.
Stand Up, America.

History, as they say, is written by the winners. And since Donald Trump has won a second term, he’s made it his mission to reshape history in his image. It started with his pardons of the J6 criminals who were part of his failed 2021 insurrection. And it’s continued with moves like Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth re-instituting the Fort Bragg name to the…
Got it. Well, I got it quite a while back. Getting it doesn't make me any happier. Doing my and our best to hold rallies, etc. Texas democrats lead the way. Thanks to each and every one of them. We are with you--your courage feeds our courage. Take care all.
So heartbreaking to see this happening in America. Thanks for what you all do at Lincoln Square.
