This essay gets to the heart of the matter for me: those individuals unwilling to admit they made a mistake by voting for Trump, or not voting at all. My father was part of the Allied army that liberated Europe in WWII. He was stationed in Germany until 1946, and he told the story of how he lost count of all the German citizens he encountered, who even if they couldn't speak English, could say one phrase in English: "We are not Nazis." He wondered who then, exactly, were the Nazis. When this whole Trumpian nightmare ends, I think there will be millions of people who will state they never supported Trump. For what it's worth, in 1980, with the ink on my college diploma barely dry, I voted for John Anderson in the presidential election. I was young, but smart enough to know that he had no chance of winning. It was a mistake, I admitted it, and learned my lesson. I wish Trump voters would understand that it's OK to admit you're wrong. In fact, it's liberating.
