Facebook once gave us a front-row seat to the lives of those we love. But after choosing revenue over people's safety for years, the company is finally facing a legal reckoning.
Remember, Facebook started as a predatory rate-college-coeds project. Zuckerman is all about attracting volume (and commensurate ad revenue) to Meta. Wise adults have been deleting their Meta accounts due to some unsavory, unsupervised activity. Unfortunately, children have undeveloped frontal contex, the part of the brain that controls impulse control. Zuckerman, with an eye to the future, felt he needed to hook a new generation to his platforms. This legal ruling was just desserts, the reasoning was akin to the time Joe Camel images were used to attract the under-18 age group to smoking.
I knew there were and are problems with Face Book/Meta because we have been hearing that for several years, but not sure what was out there on these platforms. I knew kids and "old" kids could bully others--not exactly the free speech anyone one needs to hear, particularly teens and pre-teens. A time-on-the platform that injures well-being. Beauty-filters? Not sure what they did, but it sounds like all the ads from old magazines like "Seventeen" and T.V. commercials that supposedly told girls what "pretty" was and should be. And it was not necessarily about behavior but "looks". Sounds like it became a "mean-girl" platform. Hours of that baloney is good for no one. I hope holding them accountable continues--but it, as you pointed out, will be a continuous struggle because they with their billions will appeal and appeal.
The connectivity with friends, family and even new friends across this wide world is a good thing. But we certainly can't throw caution to the wind.

Also Jeff BEZOS and of course the fELON should be brought to some kind of reckoning. And if we don’t stop AI soon, we all might as well just go up the Pali Puka trail and jump off the cliff like that weird anesthesiologist who tried to kill his wife was about to do.
Kara Swisher was on to these phonies a few years back, in her “Burn Book.” She figured out that all the lollipop, rainbows and sparkly unicorn bullshit these guys were spewing was just that and nothing more. They are in it only for the money and the power, always have been.
Despite Zuckerberg's prostestations when "The Social Network" came out, I think it's a very true depiction of Zuckerberg's attitude. He lacks a soul.
