There are things we can put back in the box, and things that we can’t. Foreign aid for at-risk and vulnerable populations can be reengaged when a new administration comes to town. We’re going to lose ground on scientific endeavors, like vaccine research and new drug development, but we’re Americans. We can catch up again. New systems can replace those that were hollowed out in our essential government agencies.

It’s gonna take work, but we’re up to it.

However, there are some actions that we will be unable to recover from. Last week was a quiet but incredibly consequential week. It’s important to call out the Winners, I know, but this week, there was just too much going on. We must face what’s happening and name the people responsible.

So, for the first time, this week’s column will feature two Losers and no Winners.

Let’s start with the most obvious Loser.

Pam Bondi, Loser

What is there to say about this? It wasn’t just hard to watch; it was devastating. You know what I’m talking about. Pam Bondi appeared before the House Judiciary Committee last week, and I came away from it feeling sick to my stomach.

There’s always been a performative joy in Trump’s public behavior. He’s a monster, obviously, and I know the comments of this piece will be filled up with Joy?! Are you sick? I know, I know.

But as someone who’s spent years covering this guy, I can say that some of the brightest moments of coverage come when he says something stupid, cruel, or totally absurd. His actions are deadly, dangerous, and blood-curdling. But his speech gives us a window into the mind of a total Loser.
