While this doesn’t surprise me (this regime is attempting to erase anyone who is not white - preferably of Northern European heritage), it saddens and angers me. We have already erased much of the history of indigenous Americans by glossing over the atrocities of our early settlers, and by ignoring the many ways in which subsequent generations have perpetuated more harm upon them. But this choice goes one step further, seeming to imply that their lives are utterly expendable; that they aren’t even fully human, deserving the protection of our laws. Murder or kidnap an indigenous person, and we won’t care enough to even investigate the crime. What have we become?
