My dad was President of ABC and NBC in the late fifties and early sixties. He was previously a journalist with the Washington Post and was a firm believer in unbiased news. He worked hard to raise the profile of TV news and brought us Huntley and Brinkley. He always believed Cronkite and CBS were the gold standard. Bari Weiss should be fired immediately and CBS should apologize and rehire the various reporters that were fired. Whether the network's reputation can ever recover is a matter for the public to decide.

Jennifer, I know you're smarter than the average bear, but you're not reading the room here. Or maybe I'm taking you too literally. Weiss is not at all about journalism, she's the Ellisons' ticket to Trump favors, seen and unseen. What you're saying here is based on an idea that the survival and flourishing of CBS is of interest to any of these players, it is not. It's a pawn in the process of being tipped over.

I don't think they mean for it to survive. She doesn't know she's going to be blamed for it because she isn't smart. That's why she has the job.

At this point, nobody should be operating under the assumption that Bari Weiss or the Ellisons give a damn about 'saving' CBS, let alone 60 Minutes.

The Ellisons do not want a news organization. They want to silence one. They have succeeded. And if they lose money at CBS, I am recalling the line from Citizen Kane. "You're right, Mr. Thatcher. I did lose a million dollars last year. I expect to lose a million dollars this year. I expect to lose a million dollars next year. You know, Mr. Thatcher, at the rate of a million dollars a year, I'll have to close this place in... sixty years."

Thank you, Jennifer. Excellent piece.

After watching Scott Pelly’s interview Sunday morning, I didn’t watch 60 Minutes for the first time in my lifetime. I’ll miss it, but not Bari Weiss. And I quit watching CBS local news after the Colbert thing. Must be nice not to miss all that money, Ellisons.

Bari Weiss is doing exactly what she was hired to do.

And after the transition to Fox Lite is complete, she will be rewarded handsomely.

They won’t fire her. The Ellisons are Trump oligarchs and they are too far gone.

I’m afraid you many be correct. They’re trying to appease an angry, overgrown orange toddler, and he’s unappeasable.
