Stuart Stevens gives his mea culpa for helping make the GOP what it is today. And he asks Republicans to speak up now and oppose Trump pardoning a convicted sex-trafficker. Before it's too late.
Thank you for the renewed hope you ‘ve given me this morning. I agree with you. This can be changed. It’s going to be a lot of hard work but we can do it as a country and as a mass of people who know right from wrong.
They are manufacturing a false Armageddon for the mythological rapture... like the Zionists invading Palestine.
If we keep sitting here and not camping on the lawn in Washington we are not doing enough. We were able to Occupy Washington in 2011... what are we even doing?
The days drag on and on with this desperate, despicable administration. I have faith and trust that the American people will not let this be the end of our democracy. We have had difficult times in our history. My parents and grandparents living through the yrs of the depression and then turning to make America stronger. I for one believe that you are right and think we will work to make it right and better.
Stuart, you served the Republican Party through your convictions. You can’t be held accountable for the failings and weakness of others in the party. Today you are still holding true to your convictions by standing for democracy. Speaking truth is very much appreciated. Thank you for standing firm.
Dems Crisis is that we're Not an Opposition Party in the U.S. Senate. Dem senators with a couple exceptions still try to glorify bipartisanship. Gallego stated publicly that he implicitly trusts [MAGA] colleagues to honor the Constitution.
The most egregious example of the Democrats caving to MAGA was when Chuck Schumer and eight democrats voted to give Trump the ability to destroy democracy by voting to keep the government open.
Excellent commentary, Stuart. Heartfelt and backed by the way true Americans think, how we should be, and will be. I can't see how men our age, whose fathers came back from WW11, and women who were nurses, factory workers, and mothers, made this nation the envy of the world, only to allow Trump and friends to destroy it. No way this will happen, my friend; it simply won't happen.
One last thing. I knew none of this was crazy when he came down that fucking elevator. Republicans couldn’t see. And they still think the party has changed. Nope. The masks just slipped.
Hey Stuart. You really seem like a good man. A quality man. And I certainly appreciate how you look at yourself and accept responsibility for your part in elevating the Republican Party. So this is said with all due respect. And I fully expect push back here. But may I say…..you were blind. All of those years you thought the republicans had morals, and stood for something. They didn’t. Not all of course, but most. Go back in time in your mind and you’ll know. It was there all along….the Republican Party was always racist, xenophobic etc. You’ll see it if only you dare to open your eyes and look at the horror at what they always were.
Wonderful talk, Stuart. Thanks. Tied in history and Republican culture to what's going on which made me see this mess a new way. And thanks for not blaming the Democratic Party for the Trump problem. Typical, the press attacks the nice guys who won't sue them instead of the dangerous bully who will.

I appreciate your honesty and willingness to be vocal about your mea culpa. Now let’s fight

Well done sir, you’re talking such common sense!
It's disturbing to me that you ignore Gaza and only focus on Ukraine. Both are experiencing mass atrocities that deserve our condemnation and action.
Time to enact the Declaration of Independence
Thank you for saying this. I was feeling so discouraged. But there’s something about hope in your post. I want to believe you.
I think substack is starting to be like TikTok it says 81 comments and then it says there's no place replies yet
The GOP drank the Trump-cult cool aid. What is worse, they are indignantly righteous.
