I heard a clip today on MS Now in which GOP tool Mike Lawler was asked about ICE overreach in Minneapolis. Of course he immediately tried to deflect by saying (I paraphrase slightly) “what over-reach? And even if there is overreach, what choice does ICE have because sanctuary cities make it impossible for ICE to do its job, so everything that agents do is forced on them by the actions of officials in sanctuary cities.”
So infuriating! But I think this is the line they’re gonna take to try and rebut the unpopular despotism of ICE.
Of course no one corrected Lawler that sanctuary cities do cooperate with the feds in criminal cases — just not in random hassling of people about their immigration status.
Unfortunately, the NJ Democratic congressman who was also in the news clip hardly covered himself in glory either— he didn’t want to talk about why he had just voted for appropriating many billions for corrupt ICE, but deflected to how great it was that the House had done their job for the first time in 37 years to pass the budgets.
I wish there were more coverage of the reasons for the immigration pressure from the southern part of of our hemisphere.
