Thank you for that powerful reminder about the ultimate sacrifice of so many who fought to save democracy. It's quite disturbing to think that those who have so much, such as musk and the tech bros, sacrificed so little and take so much as they go about their efforts to destroy democracy. But those with so much less sacrificed it all for the benefit of the many. I honor all those who have served to protect an ideal and us all.

Beautifully and passionately written. I remember all. Thank you Velda and LSq.Media. 😔🙏🕊️

P.S. Been thinking about Memorial Day. Just had to say more. When I was a kid, Memorial Day was May 30th. It was often referred to as Decoration Day. Actually, it was Decoration Day until 1868. That named lived on in my family and probably in lots of families. It was exciting because we would gather baskets or buckets of flowers to place on the graves of family members who had passed. Being so late in May the only flowers available were mostly roses---the rambling kind with lots of stickers. My sister, brothers and I would be sent through the deep wet weeds beyond the garden where the rose bushes flourished to pick those prickly roses. Then the family would go to the cemetery to place the flowers around the gravestones of family members who had pass. The Great Aunts and Grandma always made sure there was a small American Flag on their father's (my great grandfather) grave. Great Grandpa fought with the Grand Army of the Republic. I must admit the air was filled with celebration. But there was always a ceremony for a service member who had more recently pass. At the end of that ceremony taps was played--and then taps was played further away sounding like an echo. Silence, except for taps, filled the air. We knew. This celebration was a time of reflection and honor, saying both good-bye to those loved, as well as loving memory of who they were. They were not forgotten. A time when we prayed for peace. For me it was a day of flowers and memories. A day of peace and a prayer for peace. It is a lovely memory. Sorry if I am too sentimental. Age has its benefits. 🙏🕊️
